The main role of the Integrity Commissioner is to assist MLAs in fulfilling their commitments to act with integrity and in compliance with the Integrity Act. In this role the Integrity Commissioner is a resource for the MLAs. Any MLA can at any time consult with the Integrity Commissioner to obtain advice on his or her obligations under the Integrity Act. The consultations, and the advice given whether verbal or in writing, are confidential, subject to a few specific exceptions.

Advise MLA's

Advising MLA's about their duties under the Integrity act, such as avoiding conflicts of interest

Overseeing Transparency

Requiring MLA's to provide annual Public Disclosure Statements and other statements such as disclosure of gifts or benefits

Reporting

Investigating allegations of breaching the Integrity Act and reporting on investigations; providing annual reports of activities to the Assembly

The Integrity Commissioner is an independent officer of the Legislative Assembly of Nunavut. They provides advice to all members of the Legislative Assembly concerning their obligations under the Integrity Act. The Integrity Commissioner also conducts investigations and reviews of any alleged contraventions of the Integrity Act and reports their findings and recommendations to the Legislative Assembly.
